HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-00-0070y J-00-56 1/13/00 RESOLUTION NO. 00- 0 A RESOLUTION, OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ACCEPTING A DONATION FROM MCDONALDS CORPORATION, WITH AN ESTIMATED VALUE OF $1,000 CONSISTING OF FOOD, AND FROM PAWA COMPLEX INTERNATIONAL, INC., WITH AN ESTIMATED VALUE OF $2,256, CONSISTING OF 580 TOYS FOR NEEDY CHILDREN, FOR THE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT, FOR THE ANNUAL "SNOW IN THE SUNSHINE" EVENT HELD ON DECEMBER,18, 1999, AT THE ORANGE BOWL STADIUM. WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation presented the. annual "Snow in the Sunshine" event at the Orange Bowl Stadium on Saturday, December 18, 1999,; and WHEREAS, more than 500 children from the community attended the event which featured food, rides, music and several tons of snow; and WHEREAS, McDonald's Corporation participated in the program by donating food valued at approximately $1,000; and WHEREAS, PAWA Complex International, Inc. participated in the program by donating 580 toys valued at approximately $2,256, for needy children; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF JAN 2 7 2000 Resolution No. 00 70 f • i 0 Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The donation of food with an estimated value of $1,000, from McDonald Corporation and the donation of 580 toys with an estimated value of $2,256 from PAWA Complex International, Inc., for the "Snow in the Sunshine" event held on December 18, 1999, at the Orange Bowl Stadium by the Department of Parks and Recreation, are hereby accepted. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.'/ PASSED AND ADOPTED this 27th day of January 2000. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission. Warshaw REFERENCES: Sunshine Event City Manager ENCLOSURES: RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution accepting a.donation of food valued at approximately $1,000. from the McDonald's Corporation and a donation of 580 toys valued at approximately $2,256.00 from PAWA Complex International Incorporated, for use by the Parks and Recreation Department; said donations provided to the attendees at the Parks and Recreation Department's Annual "Snow in the Sunshine'' event held on December 18, 1999 at the Orange Bowl. BACKGROUND: The Department of Parks and Recreation holds an annual Snow in the Sunshine " event at the Orange Bowl where more than 500 children from the community enjoy food, rides, music and the several tons of snow. The McDonald's Corporation donated approximately $1,000 worth of food to help the City defray the cost of this event. In addition, PAWA Complex International, Incorporated donated 580 toys valued at approximately $2,256 for needy children, making this event a success.
