HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-00-0011J-00-20 12/29/99 RESOLUTION NO. 00— O i A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE ALLOCATION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUNDS, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $200,000, FROM PROJECT NOS. 690001, 690002, AND 690003, FOR THE PURCHASE OF SPECIALIZED SUPPORT AND INVESTIGATIVE EQUIPMENT, SUCH EXPENDITURE HAVING BEEN APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH THE U. S. DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURYS "GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING," AND FLORIDA STATE STATUTE, CHAPTER 932.7055, AS AMENDED. WHEREAS, the U. S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing" and Florida State Statute 932.7055, as amended, authorize the expenditure of forfeiture cash or proceeds for certain law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating expenses; and WHEREAS, the Police Department desires to purchase specialized support and investigative equipment such as digital cameras, binoculars and recording devices to enhance the investigative and support functions of the department; and WHEREAS, any purchases shall comply with established procurement procedures; and CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF JAM 1 3 2000 Resolution No. WHEREAS, funds to cover this expenditure have not been included in the Police Department's_ normal operating budget and are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has determined that the expenditures proposed comply with the U. S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing" and Florida State Statutes 932.7055, as amended; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein .as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The allocation of Law Enforcement Trust Funds, in an amount not to exceed $200,000, for the purchase of specialized support and investigative equipment, is hereby authorized, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund Project No. 690001, 690002, and 690003, such expenditures having been approved by the Chief of Police as complying with the U. S. Department of Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing" and Florida State Statute, 932.7055, as amended. Page 2 of 3 C 0 Section 3. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission. Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, from Project Numbers 690001, 690002 and 690003. BACKGROUND The Police Department will be purchasing specialized support and investigative equipment such as digital cameras, binoculars, recording devices, etc. Equipment such as these will enhance the investigative and support. functions of the department.
