ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
AMENDING CHAPTER 2/ARTICLES VII AND XI OF THE
CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS
AMENDED, TO CHANGE THE NAME OF THE
AFFIRMATIVE ACTION ADVISORY BOARD ("AAAB") TO
THE EQUAL OPPORTUNITY ADVISORY BOARD TO
ACCURATELY EXPRESS THE PURPOSE AND FUNCTIONS
FOR WHICH THE AAAB WAS ESTABLISHED; MORE
PARTICULARLY BY AMENDING SECTIONS 2-694,
2-887, 2-892, AND 2-976 AND THE TITLE NAME OF
ARTICLE XI, DIVISION 5; CONTAINING A REPEALER
PROVISION AND A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE.
WHEREAS, at its meeting of April 19, 2000, the Affirmative
Action Advisory Board (the "AAAB") voted'to change its name to
the Equal Opportunity Advisory Board (the "EOAB").' to more
accurately express the purpose and functions for which the AAAB
was established; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission concurs with said name change;
and
WHEREAS, it is therefore appropriate to amend the Code
wherever references to the AAAB appears to reflect the name
change to the EOAB;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Ordinance are hereby adopted by reference and
incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. Chapter 2, Articles VII and XI; of the Code
of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended, is hereby amended in
the following particulars:"
"Chapter 2
ADMINISTRATION
ARTICLE VII. AFFIRMATIVE ACTION POLICY
Sec. 2-694. Duties and powers of officer.
The duties, functions, powers, and
responsibilities of the head of the affirmative action
division of the department of internal audits and
reviews shall include the following:
(9) Duty to serve as executive secretary to the City of
Miami affirmative aetien equal opportunity advisory
board and liaison to the commission on the status of
women.

REVIEW OF BOARDS GENERALLY
Sec. 2-887. Quorum requirements; exceptions.
(b) The following boards are subject to quorum
requirements as provided for elsewhere in this Code.
Bayfront Park Management Trust
Brownsfields Advisory Board
Equal Opportunity Advisory Board
International Trade Board
Parking Advisory Board
Urban Development Review Board
Sec. 2-892. "Sunset" review of boards.
Commencing with the year 1995, each city board
shall be reviewed in the following manner:
6. The following boards shall initially be reviewed
in the following years and shall be reviewed every
four years thereafter:
a. 1995:

ADVISORY BOARD
Sec. 2-976. Established; members, terms of office.
(a) There is hereby established a board to be
known as the City affirmative ct equal opportunity
advisory board, hereinafter called the "board."
Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances insofar
as they are inconsistent or in conflict with the provisions of
this Ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 4. If any section, part of section, paragraph,
clause, phrase or word of this Ordinance is declared invalid, the
remaining provisions of this Ordinance shall not be affected.
Section 5. This Ordinance shall become effective thirty
(30) days after final reading and adoption thereof.21
PASSED ON FIRST READING BY TITLE ONLY this 26th day of
October , 2000.
This Ordinance shall become effective as specified herein unless vetoed
by the Mayor within ten days from the date it was passed and adopted.
If the Mayor vetoes this Ordinance, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission or upon the
effective date stated herein, whichever is later.

Attached please find an ordinance amending the name of the Affirmative Action
Advisory Board to the Equal Opportunity Advisory Board. At the April 19, 2000
meeting, the members of said board voted to amend the name of the board in order to
reflect its goals and objectives in light of some recent legislative decisions. Thus, it is in
the City's best interest to adopt this ordinance at the October 26, 2000 commission
meeting.
