Funding is to be provided from the Police Department General Operating Budget, Account 001000,290201.6.270. BACKGROUND The Department of Police must provide in-service firearm training and re -certification on an annual basis. The training is necessary to keep their officers proficient in the use of a firearm. It also provides the Police Department a forum to ensure the firearms are in top operating condition. The Metro -Dade Police Department Range serves as the primary choice for training as it is a Region XIV range. In October 1, 2000, Metro -Dade started assessing a fee of $500.00 a day for use of their facility. The Police Department requested and was granted a waiver of this fee increase for the 2000/2001 fiscal year (only). The Medley Police Department Range is used as a back-up site when Metro -Dade has no available times. Medley Police Department's range fee is $220.00 for a full day and $110 for a half day. Should the Police Department need to use the Medley range in the evening, a fee is also charged for a Medley Range Duty Officer at a rate of $21.00 per hour. These ranges provide the Police Department with large enough facilities to cycle their personnel through in an efficient manner. 41 D CAG/IT NR/HM/lr ' 1.84 TO FROM 0 Carlos A.
