RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
APPROVING THE CITY'S CO-SPONSORSHIP OF THE
PLACEMENT OF' HISTORICAL MARKERS COMMEMORATING
PERSONS, PLACES AND EVENTS IMPORTANT IN THE
HISTORY OF THE CITY OF MIAMI SPONSORED BY THE
ORANGE BLOSSOM INITIATIVE; AUTHORIZING AND
DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ASSIST THE
ORANGE BLOSSOM INITIATIVE WITH THE PLACEMENT
OF MARKERS THROUGHOUT THE CITY. AND TO MAKE
F'UNDS EARMARKED FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION
AVAILABLE TO COVER ASSOCIATED COSTS TO BE
BORNE BY THE CITY; FURTHER. AUTHORIZING THE
CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ALL NECESSARY
DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY
ATTORNEY, WITH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION AND ORANGE BLOSSOM INITIATIVE
FOR SAID PURPOSE.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City's co-sponsorship of the placement of
historical markers commemorating persons, placer and events
important in the history of the City of Miami sponsored by the
Orange Blossom Initiative, i.s approved.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized and directed
to assist the Orange Blossom 7:nitiative with the placement of
markers throughout the City, and to make funds earmarked for
historic preservation available to cover associated costs to be

borne by the City for said program.
Section 3. The City Manager is further authorizedil to
execute the necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City
Attorney, with the Florida Department of Transportation and
Orange Blossom Initiative for said purpose.
Section 4. This Resolution shall "become effective
immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor..''

11 The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with
a.1a. requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney,
including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City
Charter and Code provisions.
2.1 .!.f. the Mayor does not sign. this Resolution, it. shall become
effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was
passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it
.hall become effective immediately upon override- of theveto by
the City Commission.

please place on the City of Miami Commission Agenda for September 13. 2001, a
discussion regarding the Oxange Blossom Initiative: Historical Markers in Miami, the
Magic City (Orange Blossom Initiative).
The Orange Blossom Initiative would like to promote the historical image of Miami by
placing markers, statues, and nionuments that commemorate persons, places and events
that are important in the history of Miami. The Orange Blossom initiative is not asking
for any financial assistance from the City, but will raise all of the money required to place
the historical markers. They are requesting wupotatlon from the City of Miami in
placing the markers on City property.
I respectfully request that City Commission approve a resolution directing the City
Manager to assist the Orange Blossom Initiative with the placement of historical markers
throughout our City. Thank you,
