INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO: The Honorable Mayor Joe Carollo and DATE; FILE:
Members of the City Commission`s ' 9
SUBJECT: PROPOSED RESOLUTION
TO LIMIT VEHICLE
PARKING IN KENNETH
FROM :;yM;a
. Gime Z REFERENCES: MYERS PARK
jCn r
ENCLOSURES:
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that vehicle parking in Kenneth Myers
Park be limited to the annual Coconut Grove Arts Festival unless otherwise
specifically approved by the City Commission. This recommendation is endorsed
by the Coconut Grove Festival Advisory Committee as well as numerous residents
and condominium associations in the area of the park.
BACKGROIJND: Recently, the Seminole Boat Ramp upland parking facility
located in Kenneth Myers Park was renovated. The parking medium is grass set
upon a turf block material which allows for light weight vehicle use on a moderate
basis. In addition, efforts have been put forth to green up and improve the existing
park area between the boat ramp and the Sailing Club. The intermittent, but
constant, use of these sodded areas for vehicle parking for special events keeps this
park in a constant state (if disrepair; just about the time it is looking good, again, an
event takes place which requires parking. In no other park in the City do we allow
the constant use for parking for special events. Therefore, it is recommended that
vehicular parking be restricted to the annual arts festival (food booths) unless
specifically approved by the City Commission as an exception to this resolution.
