I Pag • CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO: TO : The Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission G��Zy�f FRO, 1 wenez City Manag RECOMMENDATION 0 11111111 DATE: AU!, Q' 2 9 FILE SUBJECT: Proposed Resolution REFERENCES: Steering Wheel Lock Units ENCLOSURES:Bid No. 00-01-255 It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt th/attached Resolution accepting the bid of Ace Lock & Security Supply, a Non -Local Non -Minority vendor, located at 565 Rahway Avenue, Union, NJ 07083, for the purchase of 1,861 Steering Wheel Lock Units, for the Police Department's Auto Theft Detail, in an amount not to exceed $24,937.40. Funding is available from the Operation C.A.R.S. Grant, Account Code No. 110063.290532.6.722. BACKGROUND The Department of Police has analyzed the bids received pursuant to Bid No. 99-00-255. Forty- one (41) Invitations for Bids were mailed and six (6) responses were received. Ace Lock & Security Supply, submitted the lowest responsive and responsible bid and is, therefore, reconunended for the award. The Police Department received a grant from the Florida Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention Authority to continue its efforts toward combating the lucrative crime of auto theft. In compliance with the provisions of the grant the department must conduct community presentations and Auto Theft Fairs to educate citizens concerning the importance of layering auto theft protection. For example, VIN etching, steering wheel inhibitors, alarms and tracking systems. The steering wheel lock units will be disseminated to citizens during these fairs.
