HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-01-0828J-01-1106 07/26/01 828 Q RESOLUTION NO. 01 — 8 2 8 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION REQUESTING THROUGIi THE CITY MANAGER THAT THE ARCHITECT OF THE CITY OF MIAMI COOPERATE IN SUPERVISING, TRAINING AND COUNSELING PERSONNEL OF THE COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY ("CRA") AND TO UTILIZE RESOURCES WITHIN TIME CRA TO ESTABLISH A TRAINING PROGRAM TO PROVIDE A PORTION OF THE THREE YEARS OF WORKING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR AIA LICENSING BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Miami City Commission requests through the City Manager that the architect of the City of Miami cooperate in supervising, training and counseling personnel. of the Community Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") and to uti—lize resources within the CRA to establish a training program to provide: a portion of the three years of working experience required for AIA licensing. Parekh .� ENCLOSURES: Executive Director `s Resolution RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the Board of Directors of the Southeast Overtown / Parkwest Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA Board) authorize the CRA Executive Director to engage Mr. Neko Grant under a Student Training Program as an "Apprentice Architect" in connection with the CRA projects within the Southeast Overtown / Park West Redevelopment arca at a compensation level not to exceed $ It is further recommended that the CRA Board also request that Mr. Grant be supervised, observed, and counseled by the architect for the City of Miami during his tenure as architect apprentice for the CRA. BACKGROUND Mr. Neko Grant is a graduate from Howard University in Washington, D.C. with a Bachelor of Architecture degree and a minor degree in Business Administration. The attached resolution authorizes the CRA Executive Director to engage Ncko Grant tinder a Student Training Program as an "Apprentice Architect" in connection with the CRA projects within the Southeast Overtown / Park West Redevelopment arca at a compensation level not to exceed $ and further requests that Mr. Grant be supervised, observed, and counseled by the Architect of the City of Miami during his tenure as apprentice architect to the CRA. WHEREAS, the City of Miami approved and adopted the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Plan pursuant to Resolution Nos. 82- 755 and 85-1247 (the "Redevelopment Plan"); and WHEREAS, the CRA is responsible for carrying out community redevelopment activities and projects in the Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Area (the "Redevelopment Area") established pursucuit to the Redevelopment Plan; and WHEREAS, Mr. Grant has graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from Howard University in Washington, D.C.; and, WHF.R.EAS, Mr. Grant has experience in the development of construction documents and prototypes for homes, condominiums, and office buildings; and management of a major design and layout of Fiber optics for the Bahamas Telecommunications Company; and analysis of construction documents for the preparation of construction bids; and WHEREAS, the CIZA is in need of such expertise to expedite construction projects in the Southeast Overtown / Park West arca. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are incorporated herein as if frilly set forth in this Section. 01- 828 • ITEM 14 SEOPW/CRA Section 2. Tire Board of Directors of the CRA hereby authorizes the CRA Executive Director to engage Mr. Neko Grant under the auspices of a Student Traning Program, as an "Apprentice Architect" in connection with the CRA projects within the Southeast Overtown / Park West Redevelopment area, at a compensation level not to exceed $ Section 3. The Board of Directors of the CRA further authorizes the CRA Executive Director to request that Mr. Grant be supervised, observed, and counseled by the City of Miami Architect during his tenure as architect apprentice to the CRA.
