A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
AUTHORIZING THE ENGAGEMENT OF THE LAW FIRM
OF AKERMAN, SENTERFITT & EIDSON, P.A. FOR
REPRESENTATION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI IN THE
CASE OF LYNN AND PERRY RUNNELS, AS PERSONAL
REPRESENTATIVES OF' JESSE STUART RUNNELS VS.
CITY OF MIAMI, IN THE U.S. DISTRICT COURT
FOR THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF FLORIDA, CASE
NO. 00 -2930 -CIV -KING, IN THE AMOUNT OF
$50,000 PLUS COS'T'S AS APPROVED BY THE CITY
ATTORNEY; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM THE
SELF-INSURANCE AND INSURANCE TRUST FUND,
ACCOUNT CODE NO. 515001.624401.6.652, FOR
SAID SERVICES.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The engagement of the law firm of Akerman,
Senterfitt & Eidson, P.A. for representation of the City of
Miami in the case of Lynn and Perry Runnels, as personal
representatives of the Estate of Jesse Stuart Runnels vs. City
of. Miami, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District
of. Florida, Case No. 00 -2930 -CIV -KING, in the amount of $50,000
plus costs as approved by the City Attorney, is authorized, with

funds allocated from the Self -Insurance and Insurance Trust
Fund, Account Code No. 515001.624401.6.652, for said services.
Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor./

at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and
adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, .it shall become

The attached proposed Resolution seeks authorization for the engagement of the law
firm of Akemian, Senterfitt & Eidson, P.A. for representation of the City of Miami in the
case of Runnels vs. C'iiv of Miami and Officer Alejandro Macias, in the U.S. District
Court for the Southcrn District of Florida, Case No. 00 -2930 -Civ -King, in the amount of
$50,000 plus costs as approved by the City Attorney. After an initial appearance by the
City Attorney's Office, a conflict of interest arose which precludes our continued
representation of the parties in this case.
Funds will be allocatedd from the City of Miami Self -Insurance and Insurance Trust
Fund, Index Code No. 515001.624401.0.652.

District of Florida, Case No. 00 -2930 -CIV -KING, in the amount of $50,000 plus costs as
approved by the City Attorney. Funds for the services will be allocated from the Self -Insurance
and Insurance Trust Fund, Account Code No. 515001.624401.6.652.
Please indicate your review and approval below by affixing your signature and return
this original memorandum to Lugena Boles, Administrative Assistant, of this office as soon as
possible.
