A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION CODESIGNATING NORTHWEST 14'x' STREET FROM MIAMI AVENUE TO NORTHWEST 2" AVENUE, MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS "HONORABLE JOE LANG KERSHAW WAY," WITH ALL CITY COSTS FOR SAID DESIGNATION TO BE BORNE BY THE CITY; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS TO 17tAATSM:'r A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO ':'1:E HERE!N DESIGNATED OFFICES. WHEREAS, pursuant to the directives contained in Resolution No. 99-858, the Miami Street Codesignation Review Committee at its meeting of July 5, 2001, reviewed and recommended a proposal for the codesignation of Northwest: 14`" Street from Miami Avenue to Northwest 2nd Avenue, Miami., Florida, as "HONORABLE JOS LANG KERSHAW WAY," to honor the individual who achieved national prominence as a Florida Legislator, being the first black African American to be elected to the Florida Legislature since reconstruction, introduced legislation that established the Florida Human Rights Commission which continues to monitor and address racial and cultural discrimination in Florida, and contributed to the community in tae areas of coaching, and as lay leader in the Catholic Church; and an go—M IM an JU L 19 2001 a& f��- 728 i WHEREAS, the City Commission affirms the recommendation of. the Miami street Codesignation Review Committee and wishes to honor Joe Lang Kershaw, Sr, with all City costs for said designation to be borne by the City; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TIME COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained 'in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Northwest 14t' Street from Miami Avenue to Northwest 2"d Avenue, Miami, Florida, is codesignated as "HONORABLE JOE LANG KERSHAW WAy," with all City costs for maid designation to be borne by the City, Section 3. The City Manager is directed to instruct the Director of Public works to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the City of Miami Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue, General Services Administration and solid waste, the Miami -Dade County Department of Public Works and United States Postal Service. - 728 Page 2 of 3 Section 4.
