The City of Miami was awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs. This grant award is to procure specialized emergency response equipment, which will enhance both the Fire and Police Department's basic defensive capability to respond to incidents of domestic terrorism involving the use of chemical or biological agents, radiological explosives and incendiary devices. The above system is designed for flexibility and optimal protection against the four conventional threats of modern explosive devices such as: overpressure, fragmentation, impact and heat, as well as, bio -chemical agents. According to Med-Eng, they are the world leader in the research, design, and manufacture of personal protective systems for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (including Chem/Bio blast protection) Crowd Management, and their suits are used in over 130 countries and territories worldwide, It was also learned the Alachua County Sheriff s Office: had also procured this ;tem as a sole source acquisition. In 1995, the EOD-7BCTy1 bomb disposal suit/helmet system was introduced and set a new standard of protection for EOD/IEDD protective systems. 1998 introduced the SRS -5(D) suit and helmet. The CPL' Chemical Protective Undergannent is mandatory for CB EOD/IEDD operations. The CPL' is a carbon -based undergarment.
