BACKGROUND The requested items are used in conjunction with Life Pak Defibrillator/monitors currently used by the Firu-Rescue Department. Lifcpak Defibrillators are used to monitor and or defibrillate patient, with suspected cardiac problems The Department of Fire -Rescue has been utilizing equipment provided by Medtronic Physio - Control Corporation since at least 1984. The Department has conducted an extensive field test which involved the major vendors of this type of equipment. The test results proved that the Medtronic Physio -Control product and accessories is superior in function and reliability. Since all Department of Fire -Rescue cardiac monitoring and defibrillation equipment is manufactured by Medtronic Physio -Control, the accessories proposed for purchase is fully compatible and will assure that the product warranty provided by Medtronic Physio -Control is valid. As the Chief Procurement Officer has deemed Medtronic Physio -Control Corporation as it sole source; it is therefore recommended at this time that the City Commission ratify the City Manager's finding of sole source and authorize the purchase of this equipment.' The City of Miami has been purchasing various medical equipment and supplies from Medtronic Physio - Control Corporation (formerly known as Physio -Control) as a sole source provider since at least 1984, and has maintained a sole source maintenance and service agreement with that firm to maintain said equipment during this period of time. The Department has conducted an extensive field test and determined the Medtronic Physio -Control products are superior in function and reliability. The Department of Fire -Rescue is now seeking to purchase various Lifepak Defibrillator aeeessorie:,. Since all of the Department of File - Rescue's cardiac monitoring and defibrillation equipment is manufactured by Medtronic Physio•Control, the accessories proposed for this acquisition is fully compatible with the other products being utilized by the Department, and will assure that the product warranty provided by NIcdtronic Physio -Control remains intact. Medtronic Physio -Control is the manufacturer and sole source provider for the LifePak defibrillators and its accessories. No other accessories of the Medtronic Physio -Control defibrillator is compatible with the LifePak defibrillation/monitor which is currently being used by the Department of fire -Rescue. As a result, Medtronic Physio -Control is the sole source provider for the acquisition of Lifepak Defibrillator accessories. The acquisition of equipment and maintenance by Medtronic Physio -Control has been previously deemed a sole source pursuant to Resolution Number 00-136. The proposed cost for the acquisition of Lifepak Defibrillator accessories for one (1) :year, with the option to extend for two (2) additional one (1) year periods, for the Department of Fire -Rescue, is to the annual amount of $50,000. funding is available from Account Code 001000.280601.6.714.
