-A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
APPOINTING CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS AS MEMBERS OF
THE MIAMI COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN
FOR TERMS AS DESIGNATED HEREIN.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The following individuals are hereby
appointed as members of the Miami Commission on the Status of
Women, each to serve a term expiring November 1.6, 2001, or until.
Lhe nominating Mayor/Commissioner leaves office, whichever occurs
first:

The Commission on the Status of Women was created to serve in an advisory capacity to the City
Commission, including advising on any possible barrier which may impede the participation of
women in City sponsored programs and activities. to work toward legislation granting women
equality before the law; to inspire in women the desire for self-improvement and pride of being,
regardless of age, marital status. race, color or creed, to seek for every woman the opportunities
equal to her potential and responsibility; to seek opportunities for and to encourage the active
involvement of women in matters pertaining to community progress; to encourage capable women
in roles of leadership,
Five appointments are needed. ']'his board was restructured by Ordinance 11982 on October 26,
2000; two original appointments remain to be made. Additionally three members have exceeded
the number of absences allowed by the Code:
• Vice Chairman Gort has one nomination for vacant seat.
• Mayor Carollo has one appointment to make for vacant seat.
• Commissioner Teele has one nomination for seat currently held by Pinky Sands, who
has exceeded the number of absences allowed by the Code and has stated that she does
not wish to serve as a member.
• Commissioner Winton has one nomination for seat currently held by Marlene Bastien,
who has exceeded the number of absences allowed by the Code.
• Commissioner Sanchez has one nomination for seat currently held by Rosa Armesto,
who has exceeded the number of absences allowed by the Code and has stated that she
cannot serve at this time.
For your information, attached please find a copy of the current membership of said board. By
copy of this memorandum, we are requestirig the Agenda Office place this issue on the June 14,
2001 Commission agenda.
