FOR DOG FOOD FOR THE CANINE IN THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE, ON AN AS -NEEDED BASIS FOR A PERIOD OF ONE YEAR, WITH THE OPTION TO RENEW FOR TWO ADDITIONAL ONE-YEAR PERIODS, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $14,530.75 FOR THE FIRST YEAR OF THE CONTRACT, A 2% INCREASE IN THE SECOND YEAR, AND A 4% INCREASE IN THE THIRD YEAR; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM THE POLICE GENERAI. OPERATING BUDGET, ACCOUNT CODE NO. 001000.290201.6.710. WHEREAS, the Department of Police requires dog food for its canine; and WHEREAS, pursuant to public notice, Invitation for Bids No. 00-01-133 was mailed to seven potential bidders; and WHEREAS, one response was received on April 23, 2001; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Chief of Police recommend that the bid received from OK Feed Store South, Inc. be accepted as the only responsive and responsible bid; and 0" C'O1yMKOx KEZ=Q or JUN 1 4 2001 IND. 01- 548 r, WHEREAS, funds are available from the Police General Operating Budget, Account Code No. 001000.290201.6.710; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The April 23, 2001 bid received from OK Feed Store South, Inc. for dog food for canine in the Department of Police, on an as -needed basis for a period of one year, with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods, in an amount not to exceed $14,530.75 For the first year of the contract, a 2% increase in the second year, and a 4% increase in the third year, is accepted, with funds allocated from the Police General Operating Budget, Account Code No. 001000.290201.6.710. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption and signature of the Mayor.-!' }� If the Mayor does not sign Lhls Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. (1) year period with the option to extend for two (2) additional one (1) year periods, subject to a 2% increase on the second year contract and a 4% increase on the third year contract, at a total first year contract amount not to exceed $14,530.75. Funding is available from the Department of Police General Operating Budget, Account Code No. 001000.290201.6.710. BACKGROUND The Department of Police has analyzed the bids received pursuant to Bid No. 00-01-133 for the provision of food for canine. Seven (7) invitations for bid were mailed and one (1) response was received. ON Feed Store South, Inc., submitted the only responsible and responsive bid and is. therefore, recommended for the award. The Police Department's service dogs are an effective law enforcement tool. The dogs are used to search buildings, perimeters, etc., for suspects who are hiding. The dog's sensitive nose allows them to locate the offender long before a human is able, making it safer for police officers.
