A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
ACCEPTING A GRANT, IN THE AMOUNT OF
$100,000, AWARDED TO THE CITY OF MIAMI FROM
THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL
PROTECTION, UNDER THE FISCAL YEAR 2000-2001
GENERAL APPROPRIATIONS ACT, SPECIFIC
AUTHORIZATION 1591G, FOR THE CLEAN-UP OF
BLUE LAGOON LAKE; AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO EXECUTE ANY NECESSARY DOCUMENTS,
IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY,
FOR ACCEPTANCE OF THE GRANT.
WHEREAS, the excessive, exotic vegetation and debris at
Blue Lagoon Lake (the "Lake") has been a source of concern for
the residents who live adjacent to the Lake; and
WHEREAS, the Miami -Dade Expressway Authority, Miami -Dade
County, the Florida Department of Transportation, the South
Florida Water Management District and the City of Miami share
jurisdiction of the Lake creating difficulty in coordinating the
funding for the Lake clean-up; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission included the clean-up of the
Lake among its legislative priorities submitted to the State of
Floridan and

WHEREAS, in anticipation of the grant award and pursuant to
Resolution No. 01-102, adopted February 6, 2001, the City
Commission, accepted the bid received from Blue Water Aquatics,
Inc. for the aquatic vegetation treatment of Blue Lagoon Lake,
in an annual amount not to exceed $38,500, with the option to
renew for two (2) additional one-year periods, subject to the
receipt of said grant award; and
WHEREAS, subsequently, the City of Miami was awarded a
direct legislative appropriation of $100,000, specifically for
the clean-up from the Florida Department of Environmental
Protection under the Fiscal Year 2000-2001 General
Appropriations Act, Specific Authorization 1591G; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to officially accept
said grant;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and
incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. A grant, in the amount of $100,000, awarded
to the City of Miami from the Florida Department of
Environmental Protection, under the Fiscal Year 2000-2001
General Appropriations Act, Specific Authorization 1591G, for
the clean-up of Blue Lagoon Lake is accepted.

Section 3. The City Manager is authorizedil to execute
any necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City
Attorney, for acceptance of the grant.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.21

'i The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all
requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but
not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code
provisions.
=� If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effectivo
at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and
adopted. if the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
