ENCLOSURES'
RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that die City Commission adopt the attached Resolution
authorizing the funding of the Police Explorers Program, and allocating funds therefor, in an
amount not to exceed $100,131.31.
Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Florida State Statute, Chapter
932.7055, as amended, from Project Number 690001.
BACKGROUND
The purpose and objective of the Police Explorers Program is to provide the young men and
women within the Miami area an opportunity to gain an insight into a career in law enforcement,
and to stimulate interest in and give consideration to further training and education for a law
enforcement career. The Police Explorers fulfill an important role in the drug awareness and
prevention movement by informing the youth of the community about the perils of substance
abuse. This knowledge is disseminated through classroom presentations and distribution of drug
information booklets at many community events. The Police Explorers also assist police
personnel in crowd, traffic and pedestrian control during football games, parades, bicycle races,
walk-a-thons, and other public events.
