Home My WebLink AboutR-01-0441J-01-152 2/28/01 0 • RESOLUTION NO. 01- 441 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), APPROVING AND CONSENTING TO THE SECRETARY OF TRANSPORTATION'S DESIGNATION OF SEGMENT 250234-1 OF STATE ROAD 953 (LE JEUNE ROAD BETWEEN THE DOLPHIN EXPRESSWAY/STATE ROAD 836 AND THE AIRPORT EXPRESSWAY/STATE ROAD 112) AS A LIMITED ACCESS FACILITY FOR PURPOSES OF PROVIDING FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF AN EXPRESSWAY INTERCONNECTOR AT SAID LOCATION, AS INDICATED ON "EXHIBIT A"; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO PREPARE AND EXECUTE ANY NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, FOR SAID PURPOSE; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A CERTIFIED COPY OF THE HEREIN RESOLUTION TO THE STATE OF FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION. WHEREAS, in conjunction with the development of the Miami Intermodal Center ("MIC"), numerous transportation improvements are necessary for Le Jeune Road, including ari expressway interconnector between the Dolphin Expressway/ State Road 836 and the Airport Expressway/ State Road 112, which will provide direct connection to the MIC and Miami International Airport_; and WHEREAS, state, county, city, and village highway authorities, acting alone or in cooperation with each other, or with any federal, state or local agency of any other state having authority to participate in the construction and maintenance of [AT T A C If W. #,.Rr T�' fait-�,� Gr is L u .: ! Wr �I�I�IeIm CITY COMBO= — ING or MAY 10 2001 ,wowwim,O. 01— 441 highways, are authorized to plan, designate, establish, regulate, vacate, alter, improve, maintain, and provide limited access facilities for public use wherever such authority or authorities are of the opinion that traffic conditions, present or future, will justify such special facilities; and WHEREAS, the proposed State Road 836 - State Road 112 Interconnector will be an elevated roadway over the existing Le Jeune Road (State Road 953) Right -of -Way within the boundaries of the City of Miami, Miami -Dade County, Florida; and WHEREAS, construction of the proposed expressway interconnector will replace the existing Le Jeune Road as shown on the "Exhibit All, attached and incorporated herein; and WHEREAS, the State of Florida Secretary of Transportation has designated Segment 250234-1 of State Road 953 (I,e Jeune Road between the Dolphin Expressway/State Road 836 and the Airport Expressway/State Road 112) as a limited access facility, which term defines the roadway right-of-way standards and requirements for an expressway facility; and WHEREAS, the City Manager also finds that traffic conditions, present or future, and the need for construction of the expressway interconnector requires the limited access facility designation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: 01- 441 Page 2 of 4 Q$X0XU Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Secretary of Transportation's designation of Segment 250234-1 of State Road 953 (Le Jeune Road between the Dolphin Expressway/State Road 836 and the Airport Expressway/State Road 112) as a limited access facility is approved and consented to for purposes of providing for construction of an expressway interconnector at said location, as indicated on "Exhibit All, attached hereto and incorporated herein. Section 3. The City Manager is authorizedAl to prepare and execute any necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, for said purpose. Section 4. The City clerk is directed to transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to the State of Florida Department of Transportation. The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. BACKGROUND In order to build the first phase of the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC), the portion of the MIC project area along Le Jeune Road will be acquired to allow for construction of the SR 936/SR 112 Interconnector, a limited access expressway connecting SR 836 and SR 112, and providing direct connection to the MIC and Miami International Airport. The Secretary of Transportation has designated this segment of Le Jeune Road as a limited access facility.
