HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-01-0399J-01-355 4/26/01 RESOLUTION NO. 01- 399 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION URGING THE OFFICIALS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY (THE "COUNTY") TO TAKE ALL STEPS NECESSARY TO DIRECT THE IMMEDIATE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW TOLL PLAZA AT VENETIAN CAUSEWAY; FURTHER SUPPORTING INCREASES FOR THE COSTS OF RESIDENTIAL CAUSEWAY PASSES FROM $6.00 TO $24.00 AND REGULAR VEHICLE TOLL FEES FROM $.50 TO $1.00; AND DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS DESIGNATED HEREIN. WHEREAS, a new toll booth facility was designed for the Venetian Causeway; and WHEREAS, removal of the historic toll plaza will significantly adversely impact the number of vehicles traveling on the Venetian Causeway to and from Miami Beach; and WHEREAS, maintaining a toll plaza is consistent with the Venetian Islands and Causeway Master Plan; and WHEREAS, the residents of the Venetian Islands and the City of Miami Beach support the immediate construction of a new toll facility; and my COMMISSIOii MEETING OF APP' 2 6 2001 �� 01=399 WHEREAS, the residents of the Venetian Islands and the City of Miami Beach support increasing the cost of residential causeway passes from $6.00 to $24.00; and WHEREAS, the residents of the Venetian Islands and the City of Miami Beach support increasing the regular vehicle toll fee from $.50 to $1.00; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The officials of Miami -Dade County (the "County") are urged to take all steps necessary to direct the immediate construction of a new toll plaza at Venetian Causeway. Section 3. Increases in the costs of residential causeway passes from $6.00 to $24.00 and regular vehicle toll fees from $.50 to $1.00 are supported. Section 4. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Miami -Dade County Mayor Alex Penelas, all 01- 399 Page 2 of 3 members of the Board of Miami -Dade County Commissioners, and Miami -Dade County Manager Steve Shiver. Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.!' PASSED AND ADOPTED this 26th day of April 2001. A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING MIAMI- DADE COUNTY TO IMMEDIATELY PROCEED WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW VENETIAN CAUSEWAY TOLL PLAZA AND SUPPORTING INCREASING THE COST OF A RESIDENTIAL CAUSEWAY PASS FROM $6.00 TO $74.00 AND INCREASING THE COST OF THE TOLL FROM $.SO TO $1.00. WHEREAS, a new toll booth facility was planned and designed, for the Venetian Causeway; and WHEREAS, removal of the historic toll plaza would significantly adversely impact the number )f vehicles traveling on the Venetian Causeway to and from Miami Beach; and WHEREAS, Miami -Dade County is considering demolishing the existing toll facility and not :building due to the assertion that there is an annual operating deficit; and WHEREAS, maintainiug the toll plaza is consistent with the Venetian Islands and Criseeway aster plan; and WHEREAS, the residents of the Venetian Islands and the City of Miami Beach support the ,mediate construction of a new toll facility; and WHEREAS, the residents of the Venetian Islands and the City of Miami Beach support reasing the cost of a residential causeway pass from $6.00 to $24.00; and WHEREAS, the residents of the Venetian Islands and the City of Miami Beach support -easing the cost of the toll from $.50 to $1 .00. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY 1LMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City unission hereby request and urge that Miami, -Dade County maintain the toll plaza on the Venetian meway, immediately proceed with the construction of a new toll plaza, increase the cost of a ential causeway pass from $6.00 to $24.00 and increase the cost of the toll from $.SO to $1.00.
