FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE, UNDER EXISTING CITY OF MIAMI BID NO. 99-00-134/03, EFFECTIVE THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30, 2001, AND SUBJECT TO ANY EXTENSIONS, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $43,225; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM THE "STOP ACTIVE VANDALISM EVERYWHERE" GRANT, ACCOUNT CODE NO. 142027.290530.6.610. WHEREAS, Resolution No. 00-613, adopted July 20, 2000, accepted the bid of InterAmerican Car Rental, Inc. to lease eighty (80) to one hundred (100) vehicles for the Department of Police on a contract basis for a period of one year, with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods, at an annual amount not to exceed $918,000; and WHEREAS, the Department of Police requires additional vehicles for its Juvenile Investigations Unit to conduct proactive initiatives to reduce the recurrence of vandalism; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Chief of Police recommend approving the leasing of vehicles from InterAmerican Car Rental, CITY COMMMMM MEETING CF APP 2 6 2001 R"Olad= Mo. 41- 325 under existing City of Miami Bid No. 99-00-134/03, be approved; WHEREAS, funds are available from the "Stop Active Vandalism Everywhere" Grant, Account Code No. 142027.290530.6.610; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The leasing of vehicles from InterAmeri.can Car Rental, Inc. for the Department of Police, under existing City of Miami Bid No. 99-00-134/03, effective through September 30, 2001, and subject to any extensions, in an amount not to exceed $43,225, is approved, with funds allocated from the "Stop Active Vandalism Everywhere" Grant, Account Code No. 142027.290530.6.610. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.!/ 1� If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. Gimenez REFERENCES: Leasing Vehicles for the City Manager Juvenile Investigations Unit ENCLOSURES: RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the leasing of vehicles from InterAmerican Car Rental, Inc., located at 1790 N.W. LeJeune Road, Miami, FL 33126, for the Police Department's Juvenile Investigations Unit, utilizing an existing City of Miami Bid No. 99-00-134/03, at a total amount not to exceed $43,225. Funds are available from the Stop Active Vandalism Everywhere (S.A.V.E.) Grant, Account Code No. 142027.2905 3 0.6.610. BACKGROUND The Miami Police Department has developed a comprehensive community oriented project, entitled, "Stop Vandalism Everywhere" (SAVE), to combat graffiti and vandalism in our community.
