A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ACCEPTING A DONATION AT AN ESTIMATED VALUE OF $43,157.57, CONSISTING OF $15,000 IN CASH AND $28,157.57, IN FURNISHINGS AND EQUIPMENT, FROM DADE AMATEUR GOLF ASSOCIATION, WHICH SPONSORED THE CITY OF MIAMI GOLF CLASSIC HELD ON DECEMBER 8, 2000, TO RAISE FUNDS FOR WHICH THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION WAS THE NAMED BENEFICIARY FOR PURPOSES OF PROVIDING FURNISHINGS AND EQUIPMENT AND IMPLEMENTING PROGRAMS FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES AT THE KINLOCH PARK CENTER UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT 451 NORTHWEST 47TH AVENUE, MIAMI, FLORIDA; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ANY NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, TO ACCEPT THE DONATION. WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation, Programs for Persons with Disabilities Division, provides a highly successful year-round program for children and adults with disabilities throughout the City; and WHEREAS, a fully accessible 5,270 square foot building, under construction for use by Persons with Disabilities, will soon be completed at Kinloch Park, located at 451 Northwest 47th Avenue, Miami, Florida; and CITY COMM= MEETING OF MAR - 0 2001 Resolution WHEREAS, the Dade Amateur Golf Association wishes to donate $43,157.57 ($15,000 in cash and $28,157.57 in furnishings and equipment) from proceeds raised by the City of Miami Golf Classic held on December 8, 2000, to the Department of Parks and Recreation to implement programs for Persons with Disabilities and to provide furnishings and equipment at the new Kinloch Park center; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. A donation at an estimated value of $43,157.57, consisting of $15,000 in cash and $28,157.57 in furnishings and equipment, is accepted from Dade Amateur Golf Association, which sponsored the City of Miami Golf Classic held on December 8, 2000, for which the Department of Parks and Recreation was the named beneficiary for purposes of providing furnishings and equipment and implementing programs for Persons with Disabilities at the Kinloch Park center under construction at 451 Northwest 47th Avenue, Miami, Florida. Page 3 of 3 0 . — 9 CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM Honorable Mayor and Members To: of the City Commission DATE: SUBJECT: FROM: enez REFERENCES: City Manager ENCLOSURES: RECOMMENDATION: CA -12 FEB 2 3 2-J'01 FILE : Resolution Accepting a Donation/Dade Amateur Golf Association It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt this attached Resolution accepting a donation at an estimated value of $43,157.57 ($15,000 cash and $28,157.57 in furnishings and equipment) from Dade Amateur Golf Association (DAGA) to be used by the Department of Parks and Recreation as the beneficiary of the City of Miami Golf Classic held on December 8, 2000, for the purpose of implementing new programs and furnishing the new center - being constructed for the City's Programs for Persons with Disabilities. BACKGROUND: The City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department, Programs for Persons with Disabilities Division provides a highly successful year round program for children and adults with varying disabilities. The Division will soon be housed at a fully accessible new, approximate 5,270 square foot building to be constructed at Kinloch Park. As in the past Dade amateur Golf Association sponsors the City of Miami Gold Classic, which was held this year on December 8, 2000 to benefit the Division's programs. As a result of this benefit golf tournament, DAGA is donating $43,157.57 to the division to be used as follows: • To provide furnishings for the Division's fully accessible Center at Kinloch Park. • To enable program participants with disabilities to receive independent living skills training. • To enable participants with disabilities to socialize and receive instruction in the arts and various therapeutic recreation activities. • To enable program participants to enhance there lives and owd oors to opportunities.
