A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ENDORSING THE CONCEPT OF THE "AMBER ALERT" PROGRAM WHICH REQUIRES TIMELY PUBLIC NOTICE OF CHILD ABDUCTIONS AND ENCOURAGING THE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY AND ALL ITS INCORPORATED MUNICIPALITIES TO REVIEW THE PROGRAM AND OTHER SIMILAR PROGRAMS FOR POTENTIAL IMPLEMENTATION; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS DESIGNATED HEREIN. WHEREAS, the City of Miami is dedicated to the protection of the children of the community; and WHEREAS, the abduction of children is a problem of national and local concern and a program of widespread and timely public notice that the abduction of a child has taken place can be an effective tool to assist in the recovery of the child before serious harm occurs; and WHEREAS, many jurisdictions are implementing programs such as the "Amber Alert" Program, as well as other law enforcement programs and procedures that could be vital tools to help protect children; and WHEREAS, the Miami -Dade County League of Cities, Inc., pursuant to Resolution No. 2001-2, adopted January 4, 2001, CITY COR MISSION MEETING OF. JAM 1 1 2001 endorsed the "Amber Alert" Program and encouraged the law enforcement agencies of Miami -Dade County and all its incorporated municipalities to review the Program and other similar programs for potential implementation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The concept of the "Amber Alert" Program which requires timely public notice of child abductions is endorsed and the law enforcement agencies of Miami -Dade County and all its incorporated municipalities are encouraged to review the program and other similar programs for potential implementation. Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Miami -Dade County Mayor Alex Penelas, all members of the Board of County Commissioners of Miami -Dade County, Florida, Miami -Dade County Manager Merrett R. Stierheim, the Mayors of each of the municipalities of Miami -Dade County, and the Miami -Dade County League of Cities, Inc. Page 2 of 3 01 1 1 2,60 Section 4.
