BACKGROUND While conducting remedial work to the structural framing in the Orange Bowl Stadium's upper deck, new areas were found showing severe deterioration due to the age of the structure. The metal deck that conforms the composite system of the. West End concourses, the interior pedestrian ramps, as well as the concrete walkways in several. locations around the Stadium present signs of corrosion, sagging, and cracks at the supports. These conditions must be repaired. It is most important that the identified areas be corrected prior to, the next football season. The Department of Public Works will immediately start this remedial work through multiple contracts so as to accomplish the most critical repairs first. The remedial work will be done so it will not interfere with the already scheduled events at the Stadium. The cost of the needed repairs will not exceed $500,000. Funds in this amount have been identified from an available balance in the 1998 General Fund Contribution to Capital Projects account. It is necessary to appropriate the funds in Capital Project No. 324002 on an emergency basis since their availability is critical to the timely completion of the remedial repairs.
