This event is FREE of charge and it take place on 7'h St. N.W, from 17'h Avenue to 22°d Avenue, after five years of hard work, and establishing this event as an important tradition in our beautiful City of Miami. CICAMEX ( Carnaval Independencia Centro America Mexico -Inc.) is a non -for-profit organization which has coordinated this civic, cultural, and social event has become a tradition in our community. "HELPING HANDS.m" philosophy is to give immigrants resources to empower themselves. The Selection Committee is made up of distinguished members from the Central American and Mexican communities in Miami - Dade county. The selection of six students from COSTA RICA, EL SALVADOR, GUATEMALA, HONDURAS, NICARAGUA and MEXICO will be made during the summer so that the winners can enroll at the local university or college of their choice during the 2001 Fall semester. THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS LUNE 29.2001. The scholarship applications have been distributed in the Miami - Dade County Public High schools, as well as through community- based organizations. The selection criteria is based on: (1) be a graduating senior in June 2001 with a 3.00 grade point average (GPA); (2) financial need; (3) personal qualities as disclosed in a • CJ PERSONAL STATEMENT; (4) be of Central American or Mexican origin. BACKGROUND Mr. Isidro Gadea, President of the Carnaval Independencia Centroamerica y Mexico, Inc. (CICAMEX), a non -for profit organization, requests the City of Miami to waive permit, administrative, disposal fees, and City personnel services (Police, Fire, Solid Waste). The CICAMEX will be having their annual event on September 16, 2001. The Administration recommends the applicable permit and administrative fees be waived, and the event organizers pay for all costs for City Service (i.e. Police, Fire, Solid Waste Personnel). Further, that CICAMEX obtain insurance to protect the City of Miami in the amount prescribed by the City Manager or designee. Attached, please find an estimated cost for City services for the CICAMEX event. The estimated cost for Police personnel is based on the Off -Duty rate of pay. In the event this cost is waived, then the City would pay the overtime rate of time and a half.
