This request is subject to the approval of FDOT. 01. 693 ff t Miami Museum of hence& ' ' Space Transit Planetarium IN ASsocIAFION WITH THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION July 6, 2001 The Honorable Johnny Winton City of Miami 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, Florida 33133 Dear Commissioner Winton, We are seeking your assistance in obtaining approval to hang light pole banners on City of Miami roadways promoting the Miami Museum of Science's exhibitions for the remainder of 2001. We understand that the City Manager will only approve applications to hang banners after the Commission approves the organization's request. Thus, we are requesting your help. For more than 50 years, the Miami Museum of Science has been attracting South Florida residents and tourists to its facility. Tremendous demand for the Museum's programs and services has pushed attendance to 300,000 annually, with 100,000 students served through school outreach and millions more through the Museum's internationally broadcast television programs and award-winning Web site. Much of the Museum's success is based on a mutually beneficial partnership with government and we are seeking your permission to hang light pole banners within the City of Miami. This will enable us to reach City of Miami residents as well as the tourists who travel within our city. Hanging light pole banners is one of the key elements of our advertising and public relations plan promoting our exhibitions. These are the most visible of all the vehicles used to promote our exhibitions. As a result of our partnership, we will recognize the City of Miami by placing the City's logo on all banners. I've attached an original print out of each of the light pole banners so you can see exactly what exhibitions we will be promoting. 3280 South Miami Avenue • Miami, Florida 33129-2832 • Tel: (3051 646-4200 • Fax: (30S) 646.4300 @ Internfj rY2y.miu"rg i111Z1I1) • 0 Letter to Commissioner Johnny Winton July 6, 2001 Page 2 Please find below the name of the exhibitions and the dates we would like to hang the banners: • SHARKS!
