A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
HOMESTEAD, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO
PROPOSED MOTORSPORTS RACING WITHIN THE CITY
OF MIAMI; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE-.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Homestead has been advised that the
City of Miami seeks to encourage motorsports racing events to be conducted within the
City of Miami, by temporarily utilizing the streets of that City; and
WHEREAS, within the City of Homestead there presently exists the
Homestead/Miami-Dade Speedway (the "Motorsports Complex"), which is a world class
venue for championship motorsports racing; and
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that although the streets of Miami
previously served as a temporary location for motorsports racing, prior to the long
envisioned and now successful development of the Motorsports Complex, there is no
longer any need to conduct racing events within the public streets of the City of Miami;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami's efforts would divert revenues from the
Motorsports Complex, and may damage the status of the Motorsports Complex; and
WHEREAS, hotels and businesses located in the City of Miami presently serve
and derive revenue from tourists who flock to South Florida to attend races at the
Motorsports Complex; and
WHEREAS, the continued success of the Motorsports Complex is vital to the
