HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-02-1285J-02-1053 12/09/02 RESOLUTION NO. 02-1285 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION APPROVING THE CITY OF MIAMI'S CO-SPONSORSHIP FOR THE FOLLOWING PARADES AND EVENTS FOR FISCAL YEAR 2002-2003: MARTIN LUTHER KING PARADE, THREE KINGS PARADE, JOSE MARTI PARADE AND FARAH JUSTE CONCERT; FURTHER AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE PROVISION OF TECHNICAL SUPPORT, ASSISTANCE, IN-KIND CONTRIBUTIONS AND SERVICES, IN AN AGGREGATE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $90,000, FOR SAID EVENTS. WHEREAS, the City Commission has determined that certain parades and events serve a public purpose which is beneficial to promoting the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Commission that the City of Miami co-sponsor and provide technical support, assistance, and in kind -contributions and services, in an aggregate amount not to exceed $90,000, for certain parades and events for Fiscal Year 2002-2003, as listed herein; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: CITY COM OSSION MEETING CfF DEC 1 2 2002 Rescaufion NO. 02-1285 Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City of Miami's co-sponsorship for the following parades and events listed herein is approved, and the provision of technical support, assistance, and in-kind contributions and services for said parades and events for Fiscal Year 2002-2003, in an aggregate amount not to exceed $90,000, is authorized and directed as follows: NAME OF PARADE/EVENT Farah Juste Concert Three Kings Parade Martin Luther King Parade Jose Marti Parade DATE TO BE HELD AMOUNT January 1, 2003 $15,000 January 12, 2003 $50,000 January 20, 2003 $16,000 January 28, 2003 $ 7,500 Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.-'/ 1� If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. BACKGROUND: The administration has determined that the parades and events listed as follows service a public purpose and are beneficial to promoting the City of Miami. The attached Resolution authorizes the City's co-sponsorship of the parades and events listed below and directs and authorizes the City Manager to provide (1) technical assistance and support, and (2) in-kind contributions and services, in the amount not to exceed $90,000. The allocation of funds not to exceed $90,000 will come from the Special Events Festival Account.
