HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-02-1252RESOLUTION NO. 02-1252 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION APPOINTING CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS AS MEMBERS OF THE SISTER CITIES COORDINATING COUNCIL FOR TERMS AS DESIGNATED HEREIN. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The following individuals are hereby appointed as members of the Sister Cities Coordinating Council, each to serve a term to expire on November 19, 2003, or until the Mayor or the appointing Commissioner leaves office, whichever occurs first: APPOINTEES: NOMINATED BY: Commissioner Joe Sanchez Commission At -Large Mercedes Lopez Cisneros Chairman Regalado PASSED AND ADOPTED this 19th day of November, 2002. Thompson ENCLOSURES: City Clerk Resolution The Sister Cities Coordinating Council was created to: (1) serve in an advisory capacity for the City of Miami Sister Cities Program to plan, implement, and oversee the city's international, professional, technical, educational and cultural exchanges, promotion and policies to create and stimulate friendly and meaningful relationships; (2) form a committee for each sister city that will have a president with significant cultural and business ties to the sister city; (3) maintain an affiliation policy and direction of sister city committees established for each sister city of the City of Miami; (4) actively solicit contributions and financial support from private business interests and any other governmental authorities to the degree necessary to achieve its purpose. This is a new board created by Ordinance 12251 on July 9, 2002. Six original appointments are needed: ■ The Commission at, large appoints one member of the City Commission as a member of the Council. ■ Each member of the City Commission, except for the City Commissioner appointed to the Council, has one nomination to make. ■ Mayor Diaz has one appointment for individual who shall be the Chairperson of the Council.
