A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 02-262 TO AUTHORIZE
AN INCREASE IN A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF
$25,000, FROM $50,000 TO $75,000, TO COVER
THE COSTS OF UNANTICIPATED EXPENSES INCURRED
DURING THE OCEAN RACE MIAMI EVENT HELD
MARCH 27 - APRIL 14, 2002; ALLOCATING FUNDS
FROM SPECIAL EVENTS ACCOUNT CODE
NO. 001000.921054.6.289.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. Resolution No. 02-262 is amended in the
following particulars:!/
"RESOLUTION NO. 02-262
Section 1. A grant, in an amount of $50,000
$75,000, for services to be provided by the
Departments of Police and Fire -Rescue and other
unanticipated expenses for the Ocean Race Miami
event, scheduled for March 27 - April 14, 2002 is
authorized, with funds allocated from the Special
Events Account, Code No. 001000921054.6.289.

effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was
passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it
shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by
the City Commission.

Volvo Ocean Race

Recommendation
It is respectfully recommended the City Commission adopt the attached resolution
allocating funds in the amount of $25,000 to the Volvo Ocean Race to pay for expenses
incurred during their event held in Miami March 27 — April 14, 2002.
Background
On February 27, 2002, the City Commission approved Resolution #02-212, allocating
$50,000 to Ocean Race Miami, Inc for the provision of Police and Fire Rescue Services.
Ocean Race Miami, Inc., a nonprofit corporation, formed to showcase South Florida prior
to and during the Volvo Ocean Race requests the City of Miami allocate an additional
$25,000 to pay for expenses incurred during the event.
The Volvo Ocean Race — Round the World 2001 — 2002, brought national and
international media attention to Miami during their 20 day stop im the City of Miami. The
event was featured daily in both print media and television highlighting our community
worldwide. It was reported that approximately 30,000 visitors attended the event and
patronized our hotels, restaurants, stores and attractions. In addition, the youth in our
community where provided with a unique opportunity to experience world-class sailing.
