A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
AUTHORIZING THE CONTINUED ENGAGEMENT OF THE
LAW FIRM OF O'CONNOR, CHIMPOULIS, ET AL.
FOR REPRESENTATION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
IN THE CASE OF ANGEL ALVAREZ VS. CITY OF
MIAMI, ET AL. IN THE U.S. DISTRICT COURT
FOR THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF FLORIDA, CASE
NO. 00 -2151 -CIV -JORDAN, IN THE AMOUNT OF
$25,000, PLUS COSTS AS APPROVED BY THE CITY
ATTORNEY; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM THE
SELF-INSURANCE AND INSURANCE TRUST FUND,
ACCOUNT CODE NO. 515001.624401.6.652, FOR
SAID SERVICES.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The continued engagement of the law firm of
O'Connor, Chimpoulis, et al. for representation of the City of
Miami in the case of Angel Alvarez vs. City of Miami, et al. in
the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida,
Case No. 01 -2151 -CIV -JORDAN, in the amount of $25,000, plus
costs as approved by the City Attorney, is authorized, with

funds allocated from the Self -Insurance and Insurance Trust
Fund, Account Code No. 515001.624401.6.652, for said services.
Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor."

1� If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective
at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and
adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.

Continued enga ment of the law firm of O'Connor, Chimpoulis, et al.,
for representatKon of the City of Miami in the case of Angel Alvarez vs.
City of Miami, et al., in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of
Florida, Case No. 00 -2151 -CIV -JORDAN (J-02-888).
The attached proposed Resolution seeks authorization for the continued engagement
of the law firm of O'Connor, Chimpoulis, et al., for representation of the City of Miami
in the case of Angel Alvarez vs. City of Miami, et al., in the U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of Florida, Case No. 00 -2151 -Civ -Jordan (J-02-753), in the additional
amount of $25,000 plus costs as approved by the City Attorney.
Resolution No. 02-22, adopted January 10, 2002, approved the allocation of
$25,000, Resolution No. 02-625, adopted June 13, 2002, approved the allocation of
$25,000, and Resolution No. 02-969, adopted September 11, 2002, approved the
allocation of $25,000. Approval of this Resolution will bring the total amount to
$100,000. Outside counsel was initially retained because of a conflict of interest.
Further attorney's fees will be necessary to complete discovery and prepare this case for
trial.
Funds will be allocated from the City of Miami Self -Insurance and Insurance Trust
Fund, Index Code No. 515001.624401.6.652.
