The funds requested will be used to establish an after-school Computer luborstory and Tutorial Program for the youngsters in the community, plus a College -Orientation and Job -Skills Training .program. Both programs would run year-round. In 1990 St. Ashes CDC: partnered with The Rainbow Village Housing Project (Miami - Dade I lousing) in Ove rtown, in a joint venture to upgrade the physical structures and living conditions of the tenants. Rainbow Villages was renovated and refurbished and not long afterward, a Day Care Center was established. The Summer of 2002 saw the full. time operation of a Summer Camp Probnam wrving youngster from ages six through fifteen. Campers enjoyed not only a fun -filled summer of recrcat.ion and ,ports, but also benefited Crum lite -enhancing experiences such as educational bus trips out side their community; increased social and communication skills, as well as improved s:lf e%tcem. All of the youngsters and their parents expressed an interest in remaining connected with a St. Agnes program operattxl throughout the year. College preparation and labor -market readiness have been pinpointed as a gnat need in the Overtown Community. St. Agnes can help answer that need with the out -lined after school Computer Lab and Joh-Skills Training Center. It is a need that must he met. P.2 02-1094
