HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-02-1089J-02-975 9/26/02 RESOLUTION NO. 02-1085 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ALLOCATE THE BALANCE OF UNAPPROPRIATED FUNDS FROM THE ACCOUNTS OF THE OFFICE OF DISTRICT 5 TO RITMIKREYOL, A PARTICIPANT OF "CULTURAL FRIDAYS/ SATURDAYS" TO BE HELD IN DISTRICT 5 THROUGHOUT FISCAL YEAR 2003, TO PRESENT A SERIES OF EVENTS FEATURING ARTS AND CRAFTS, POETRY READINGS, SHORT PLAYS, FOOD AND MUSIC WITH LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL BANDS; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXPEND SUCH FUNDS TO LIQUIDATE ANY DEBT OWED TO THE CITY OF MIAMI, MIAMI-DADE COUNTY AND ANY VENDOR OR ARTIST THAT PROFFERRED OR PROVIDED SERVICES TO THE 2002 ROOTS AND CULTURE FESTIVAL HELD IN DISTRICT 5; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY FOR SAID PURPOSE. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Manager is directed to allocate the balance of unappropriated funds from the accounts of the Office of District 5 to RITMIKREYOL, a participant of "Cultural CITY Cor M =j N MEET= OF F r 2 6 2002 Resolution No. 02-1088 Fridays/ Saturdays" to be held in District 5 throughout Fiscal Year 2003, to present a series of events featuring arts and crafts, poetry readings, short plays, food and music with local and international bands. Section 2. The City Manager is further authorized to expend such funds to liquidate any debt owed to the City of Miami, Miami -Dade County, and any vendor or artist that proffered or provided services to the 2002 Roots and Culture Festival held in District 5. Section 3. The City Manager is authorized!/ to execute all necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, for said purpose. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.2/ 1� The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including, but not limited to, those prescribed by the applicable City Charter and Code Provisions. z� If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. Each of RitmiKLrtyol'S monthly events will feature arts and crafts, poetry readings, short plays, food, music, duce plus local and International Kreyol bands and artists. RitmiKreyol's planning cone ttee will solicit merchants, restaurants, civic organizations, educational institutions, as well as law enforcement and government agencies, to participate in it's monthly events. The volunteer committee members will comprise of a remukable coalition of advocates, working together to support community and neighborhood development. TARGET AUDIENCE Families, tourists, youth, college students, senior citimns and business people.
