BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The following individuals are hereby appointed as members of the City of Miami Commission District Boundary Committee, each to serve a term expiring November 13, 2002, or until the nominating Commissioner leaves office, whichever occurs first: APPOINTEES: Commissioner Angel Gonzalez (Chairperson) Tony Crapp, Jr. Frank Balzebre David Marko NOMINATED BY: Commission At -Large Chairman Tomas Regalado Vice Chairman Johnny Winton Commissioner Joe Sanchez PASSED AND ADOPTED this 11th day of September, 2002. Thompson City Clerk CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA 45 INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM DATE: SUBJECT: REFERENCES ENCLOSURES: August 16, 2002 FILE: Commission District Boundary Committee September 11, 2002 Agenda Resolution _r The Commission District Boundary Committee was created to serve in an advisory capacity and make recommendations in writing to the City Commission regarding the possible changes in the boundaries for the five Commission Districts, which shall include, but not be limited to: (1) Review and analysis of the demographics of the individual Commission districts and their relationship to City of Miami communities; (2) Engage a consultant(s), in an amount not to exceed $30,000, to be allocated from the budget of the City Attorney to assist with the determination of modifying the districts' boundaries; (3) Recommend commission district boundary changes, to the City Commission with particular emphasis on maintaining the integrity of the dominant population base, with changes not to increase or decrease the dominant voter age population by more that +- 3%; (4) Authorize members of the Committee to appear before the Board of Miami -Dade County Commissioners; (5) Submit a report of findings within 90 days from the adoption date of Resolution 02-670 (June 13, 2002 = 90 days = September 30, 2002), to timely meet required deadlines for a referendum to be scheduled before the electorate at a Special Municipal Election to be held in November, 2002. This committee was created in June 13, 2002 and has nine original member appointments to be made: The Commission At -Large appoints one City Commissioner who shall serve as Chairperson. Each Commissioner nominates one individual. • Mayor Diaz has three appointments, which appointments shall be made to assure the gender and ethnic balance of the Committee as appointed by the City Commissioners.
