RESOLUTION NO. 02— 857
A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
APPROVING THE BAYFRONT PARK MANAGEMENT
TRUST'S SELECTION OF TIMOTHY F. SCHMAND AS
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR.
WHEREAS, the Bayfront Park Management Trust ("Trust") has
managed the Mildred and Claude Pepper Bayfront Park ("Bayfront
Park") with the goal of ensuring maximum community involvement;
and
WHEREAS, Section 38-105 of the Code of the City of Miami,
Florida, as amended, authorizes the Trust to appoint an Executive
Director, subject to City Commission approval; and
WHEREAS, the Trust's Executive Director Search Committee
conducted a national search to fill the Executive Director
position; and
WHEREAS, the City Clerk received 67 applications for the
position of Executive Director, which were forwarded to the
Search Committee; and

WHEREAS, at its meeting of June 14, 2002, the Search
Committee voted to recommend Timothy F. Schmand as Executive
Director to the Trust; and
WHEREAS, at its meeting of June 24, 2002, the Trust approved
the Search Committee's recommendation of Mr. Schmand;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and
incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Bayfront Park Management Trust's
selection of Timothy F. Schmand as Executive Director of the
Trust is approved.

Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.!'

1� If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become
effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was
passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it
shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by
the City Commission.

SUBJECT: Resolution —
Approving the Bayfront Park
Management Trust's
Selection of a New Executive
Director.
It is respectfully requested that the Miami City Commission adopt the attached Resolution approving
the Bayfront Park Management Trust's selection of Timothy F. Schmand as executive director.
BACKGROUND
The Bayfront Park Management Trust was created by the Miami City Commission to direct, operate,
manage and maintain all aspects of Bayfront Park with the goal of ensuring maximum community
involvement. Section 38-105 of the Miami City Code authorizes the Trust to appoint an executive
director subject to city commission approval. The Executive Director Search Committee of the Trust
conducted a national search to fill the position. The City Clerk received 67 applications for the
position, which were forwarded to the search committee. The search committee conducted ten
telephone interviews with the ten most qualified applicants and three personal interviews with the
top candidates. At the June 14, 2002, meeting of the search committee, the committee voted to
recommend Timothy F. Schmand to the Trust as executive director. The Trust approved that
recommendation at its meeting of June 24, 2002. As Chairperson, I recommend approval of the
Trust's selection of Timothy F. Schmand as executive director by the City Commission.
