HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-02-0856J-02-714 7/23/02 RESOLUTION NO 0 9 C) A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SELL FOUR SURPLUS CITY -OWNED 1994 CHEVROLET CAPRICE VEHICLES, AS MORE PARTICULARLY DESCRIBED IN "EXHIBIT All, ATTACHED HERETO, TO COLUMBIA PICTURES, IND. FOR THE FILMING OF THE MOTION PICTURE ENTITLED "BAD BOYS II," AT THE AMOUNT OF $2,000 PER VEHICLE, FOR WHICH COLUMBIA PICTURES, IND. SHALL BEAR THE FULL COST TO RECEIVE SUCH VEHICLES; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, TO CONSUMMATE THE SALE. WHEREAS, Columbia Pictures, Ind. Has expressed an interest in purchasing four surplus police units to be used for the filming of the movie "Bad Boys II," which will be shot in the Miami area from July 15 through October 21, 2002; and WHEREAS, the Department of General Services Administration ("GSA"), Fleet Management Division, has identified four 1994 Chevrolet Caprice vehicles that have been earmarked to be removed from fleet service; and WHEREAS, based on the most recent GSA auction, it has been determined that a fair market price for each vehicle is $2,000; and CITY GOMUSSION I EETINZ biF J U L. 2 5 2002 Resoletivn DW. 02 85F WHEREAS, Columbia Pictures, Ind. Shall bear the full cost to receive such vehicles; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized to sell four surplus City -owned 1994 Chevrolet Caprice vehicles, as more particularly described in "Exhibit All, attached hereto, to Columbia Pictures, Ind. for the filming of the motion picture entitled "Bad Boys II," at the amount of $2,000 per vehicle, for which Columbia Pictures, Ind. shall bear the full cost to receive such vehicles. Section 3. The City Manger is authorized'I to execute the necessary documents and appropriate release documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, to consummate the sale. �i The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission. Page 3 of 3 02- 85F CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA 4CA=22 INTER-OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO: The Honorable Mayor and Members DATE: .AL 10 M FILE: of the City Commission FROM city RECOMMENDATION SUBJECT: Request to Sell Four (4) Surplus Vehicles, For the Filming of REFERENCES Bad Boys II ENCLOSURES: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the City Manager to sell four (4) city -owned 1994 Chevrolet Caprice vehicles, as more particularly described in Exhibit "A" attached hereto and made part hereof, at $2,000 per vehicle, to Columbia Pictures, Ind., for the purpose to facilitate the filming of the feature movie of "Bad Boys II". BACKGROUND Columbia Pictures, Ind. has expressed an interest in purchasing four (4) surplus police units to be used for the filming of "Bad Boys" which will be shooting in our area from July 15 through October 21, 2002. The Department of General Services Administration ("G.S.A."), Fleet Management Division, has identified four (4) 1994 Chevrolet Caprice vehicles that have been earmarked to be taken out of fleet.
