The bid of Worldwide Wholesale Forklifts, the lowest responsive and responsible bidder pursuant to Invitation for Bids No. 01-02-065, dated January 14, 2002, for the procurement of a forklift for use at the Coconut Grove Expo Center, for the Department of Conferences, Conventions and Public Facilities, in an amount not to exceed $17,085, is accepted, with funds allocated from Capital Improvement Projects, Account Code No. 325006.359301.830. Gimenez City Manager 22 DATE: JUN 18 K'3 FILE: SUBJECT: Resolution Awarding Bid for Purchase of Forklift for Coconut Grove Expo Center REFERENCES: Bid 01-02-065 ENCLOSURES: RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution accepting the bid of Worldwide Wholesale Forklifts, a non-local/minority vendor, located at 268 S.W. 32 Court, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida 33215, for the procurement of a forklift for use at the Coconut Grove Expo Center at a cost of $17,085. Funds are available from CIP Project Account No. 325006.359301.830. BACKGROUND A dependable and reliable forklift is essential to the daily operation of the Coconut Grove Expo Center. The existing forklift is 15 years old and is constantly breaking down, causing disruptions in the performance of necessary tasks and/or expenditure of funds for rental of a forklift. Each time it breaks down, it is at the City motor pool for an average of two weeks for repairs. The cost of repairs for the period from January 2000 through March 2002 was $3,690. It is imperative that a new forklift be purchased for the Center because of the repair downtime, the cost of repeated repairs and the age of the existing forklift. The Purchasing Department distributed bids pursuant to Bid No. 01-02-065, and three bids were received. Worldwide Wholesale Forklifts submitted the lowest responsive and responsible bid, and it is recommended that the bid be awarded to them.
