A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION SUPPORTING THE GREATER MIAMI MARDI GRAS CELEBRATION SCHEDULED FOR PRESIDENT'S DAY WEEKEND 2003 IN DOWNTOWN MIAMI; FURTHER, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO COORDINATE AND FACILITATE DONATIONS FROM VARIOUS BUSINESSES AND ORGANIZATIONS FOR THE REALIZATION OF THE MARDI GRAS, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE HAITIAN AMERICAN FOUNDATION, INC. WHEREAS, the City of Miami is a multi-ethnic, multi -cultural, multi-lingual community; and WHEREAS, the Greater Miami Mardi Gras, Inc., in conjunction with the Haitian American Foundation, Inc., has suggested that a Mardi Gras Celebration be held on President's Day week -end in Downtown Miami in 2003; and WHEREAS, Greater Miami Mardi Gras will bring an infusion of cash to the economy of the City of Miami, Miami -Dade County and its surrounding cities; and WHEREAS, the hotel, restaurant and tourist industry will benefit from the influx of people coming from other states and other countries to join in the celebration; CITY COMMISSION I .TU .o fes•' J U N 2 7 2002 Resolution W. 02- 749 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Greater Miami Mardi Gras celebration scheduled for President's Day Weekend 2003 in Downtown Miami is supported. Section 3. The City Manager is authorized to coordinate and facilitate donations from various businesses and organizations for the realization of the Mardi Gras, in conjunction with the Haitian American Foundation, Inc. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.!' 1j If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
