HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-02-0736J-02-510 6/19/02 02— RESOLUTION NO. 736 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION CODESIGNATING NORTHWEST 10TH AVENUE, FROM NORTHWEST 54TH TO 62I'm STREETS, MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS "THELBERT JOHNAKIN BOULEVARD;" FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN DESIGNATED OFFICES. WHEREAS, the City of Miami would like to recognize Thelbert Johnakin as a community leader who has positively impacted his community; and WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 10761, adopted July 12, 1990, created the Miami Street Codesignation Committee and entrusted said Committee with the responsibility of reviewing street codesignation requests and making recommendations to the City Commission in its determination as to whether or not a street should be codesignated or a marker or plaza should be designated; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the City Commission's directive, the Miami Street Codesignation Review Committee, at its meeting of CITY MEET 3 JUN 2 7 2002 Ra3so}ut^ion M. 02- 736 January 30, 2002, reviewed the proposal for a codesignation for "Thelbert Johnakin Boulevard" and recommended the codesignation of Northwest 10th Avenue, from Northwest 54th to 62nd Streets, Miami, Florida, as "Thelbert Johnakin Boulevard;" NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings set forth in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Northwest 10th Avenue, from Northwest 54th to 62nd Streets, Miami, Florida, is codesignated as "Thelbert Johnakin Boulevard." Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue, Public Works, General Services Administration, and Solid Waste, the Miami -Dade County Public Works Department and the United States Postal Service. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission. Gimenez City Manager RECOMMENDATION CA -18 DATE: OLIN 18 !r.02 FILE SUBJECT: Street codesignation of NW 10 Avenue, from NW 54 Street to NW 62 Street as "Thelbert REFERENCES Johnakin Boulevard" ENCLOSURES: The City of Miami Street Codesignation Committee recommends that the City of Miami Commission adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the codesignation of NW 10 Avenue, from NW 54 Street to NW 62 Street as "Thelbert Johnakin Boulevard." BACKGROUND Mr. Thelbert Johnakin was an exemplary Model City community leader who throughout his life contributed to the area establishing multiple social service programs such as an annual Senior Citizens Christmas Luncheon and taking underprivileged youths to the Magic Kingdom. His personal and civic contributions, which spanned a lifetime, include spearheading crime prevention and community improvement projects which warrant that he be recognized through the naming of "Thelbert Johnakin Boulevard."
