Gimenez City Manager RECOMMENDATION DATE: FILE: JUN 18 202 SUBJECT: Street codesignation of 38 Street from Biscayne Boulevard to Federal Highway as "Tuttle REFERENCES Street" ENCLOSURES: The City of Miami Street Codesignation Committee recommends that the City of Miami Commission adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the street codesignation of 38 Street from Biscayne Boulevard to Federal Highway as "Tuttle Street." BACKGROUND Julia Tuttle was one of the most important founders of the City of Miami whose influence opened the area to economic growth and development. She moved to a nascent Miami in 1891 when she purchased the Fort Dallas land to build her new home. Tuttle, an independent woman with tremendous foresight, anticipated the potential Miami had as a tourist site, trade center and gateway to the Americas. Toward this purpose, she was instrumental in getting Henry Flagler to extend his railroad line to the area, thereby fostering access and expansion.
