Gimenez City Manager ENCLOSURES: RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the attached Resolution be adopted accepting a grant. from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for traffic operation improvements along Southeast 7 and 8 Streets and authorizing the City Manager to execute the necessary documents for that purpose. BACKGROUND The City of Miami is proposing a project to relieve the gridlock congestion created on Brickell Avenue and Southeast 7 and 8 Streets due to the frequent opening of the Brickell Avenue bridge. The proposed project, which will provide two-way traffic flow on Southeast 8 Street between Brickell Avenue and South Miami Avenue, will provide a much needed "relief valve" for westbound traffic off of Brickell Avenue. This project has the full support of the Brickell Homeowners Associations and the Business Associations. In 2001, the City applied for a FDOT grant to fund a portion of the traffic operation improvements along Southeast 7 and 8 Streets and earlier this year funds were approved in the amount of $50,000 from the Florida Department of Transportation. The City's matching contribution of $50,000 is available from funds appropriated in the Capital Improvement Program, Project No. 341135. It is now in order to accept these grant funds and authorize the City Manager to execute the necessary documents for that purpose.
