SUBJECT: Variance to Noise Ordinance
REFERENCES:
ENCLOSURES:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission grant Simpson/Bruckheimer Productions
& Michael Bay Films, in association with Columbia Pictures, Inc., their request for a waiver of the
City of Miami noise ordinance. The purpose of this waiver is to facilitate the filming of the feature
film "Bad Boys II," which will be shooting in our area from July 15 through October 21, 2002.
BACKGROUND
"Bad Boys 11" is an action -adventure, police drama staring Academy Award Nominee Will Smith
and Martin Lawrence. It is the sequel to the original "Bad Boys" blockbuster hit that was filmed
almost entirely in Miami Dade County. The Producer, Jerry Bruckheimer and Director, Michael
Bay, are renowned for their hit films, which include "Bad Boys," "The Rock," "Armageddon," and
the Academy Award winning epic "Pearl Harbor."
This procedure is customary for the filming of large productions in the City of Miami, since
locations and shooting dates are not scheduled too far ahead and many times change one or more
times. Upon approval of the waiver by the City Commission, the production company will
proceed with the usual permitting process, as specific locations are needed, with the Police
Department's Film and Special Events Offices.
These offices will ensure that their filming locations are approved by the local NET Offices,
Chambers of Commerce, residents affected by the production, or other government agencies as the
need arises. Additionally, please be advised that this company and their location manager Maria
Chavez, have had a excellent working relationship with the Miami Police Department in the past,
thus we foresee no problems with this request.
