HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-02-0635J-02-503 6/5/02 RESOLUTION NO. 02— 635 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION CODESIGNATING SOUTHWEST 1ST STREET, FROM SOUTHWEST 22ND AVENUE TO SOUTHWEST 18TH COURT, AS CALLE GERARDO TUN6N"; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE DESIGNATED OFFICES HEREIN. WHEREAS, the Miami Codesignation Review Committee at its meeting of September 19, 2001, reviewed and recommended a proposal for the codesignation of Southwest 1St Street, from Southwest 22nd Avenue to Southwest 18th Court, as Calle Gerardo Tun6n" to honor a successful businessman who served the community by participating in numerous charitable organizations; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings set forth in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Southwest 1St Street, from Southwest 22nd Avenue to Southwest 18th Court, is codesignated as Calle Gerardo Tun6n " . The City Manager is directed to instruct the Director of Public Works to transmit a copy of this resolution to the City of Miami Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue, General Services Administration and Solid Waste, the Miami -Dade County Department of Public Works and United States Postal Service. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission. Page 2 of 2 02- 635 CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission oil RECOMMENDATION CA -26 DATE: W"Y 2 1 K'3 FILE: SUBJECT: Street codesignation of SW 1 Street from SW 22 Avenue to SW 18 Court as "Calle Gerardo REFERENCES Tun6n" ENCLOSURES: The City of Miami Street Codesignation Committee recommends that the City of Miami Commission adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the street codesignation of SW 1 Street from SW 22 Avenue to SW 18 Court as "Calle Gerardo Tun6n." BACKGROUND Mr. Gerardo Tuii6n was a pillar of our community since the early 1960s when he emigrated from Cuba and settled in Miami. He opened a successful insurance business in 1963 and devoted himself to his family. As he prospered, he served his community without fail. Mr. Tuii6n cooperated on many levels with numerous charitable organizations. "Calle Gerardo Tuii6n" will serve to recognize an exemplary life in service to family and community.
