A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION CODESIGNATING NORTHWEST 3RD STREET, FROM NORTHWEST 8TH AVENUE TO NORTHWEST 9TH AVENUE, MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS "CALLE JOSE COLMENARES"; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE DESIGNATED OFFICES HEREIN. WHEREAS, the Miami Codesignation Review Committee at its meeting of January 30, 2002, reviewed and recommended a proposal for the codesignation of Northwest 19th Avenue from Northwest North River Drive to Northwest 18th Street, Miami, Florida, as "Calle Jose Colmenares" to honor an individual who was an employee with the City of Miami Department of Parks and Recreation, assigned to Virginia Key, and who took a very active role in his neighborhood's revitalization committees and programs on behalf of area youth; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings set forth in the Preamble to this resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Northwest 3rd Street, from Northwest 8th Avenue to Northwest 9th Avenue, Miami, Florida, is co -designated as "Calle Jose Colmenares" Section 3. The City Manager is directed to instruct the Director of Public Works to transmit a copy of this resolution to the City of Miami Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue, General Services Administration and Solid Waste, the Miami -Dade County Department of Public Works and United States Postal Service. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission. RECOMMENDATION DATE :K Z i AM FILE SUBJECT: Street codesignation of NW 3 Street, from 8 Avenue to 9 Avenue as "Calle Jose Colmenares" REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: The City of Miami Street Codesignation Committee recommends that the City of Miami Commission adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the codesignation of NW 3 Street, from 8 Avenue to 9 Avenue as "Calle Jose Cohnenares." BACKGROUND Mr. Jose Colmenares was a City of Miami Parks and Recreation employee assigned to Virginia Key who took a very active role in his neighborhood's revatilization committees and programs on behalf of area youths. In addition, Mr. Colmenares was a valued member of the Cuban -American community and recognized for his commitment to anti -communist efforts.
