HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-02-0599J-02-540 5/23/02 RESOLUTION NO. 02— 599 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION GRANTING AN EXTENSION OF HOURS OF SALE FOR ESTABLISHMENTS DISPENSING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES FOR CONSUMPTION ON THE PREMISES (C.O.P.) DURING THE 2002 FIFA WORLD CUP, FROM THURSDAY, MAY 30, 2002 THROUGH SUNDAY, JUNE 30, 2002, PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS CONTAINED IN SECTION 4-2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED. WHEREAS, the FIFA World Cup is one of the most widely watched sporting events in the world; WHEREAS, the final competition for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, will be held in Korea and Japan from Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 30, 2002; and WHEREAS, the diverse citizenry of the City of Miami will be watching and celebrating this year's final competition via television from public entertainment and social establishments; and WHEREAS, both Japan and Korea are located in time zones that are twelve hours ahead of our Eastern Standard Time and the final CITY COMCSS O" V,ETET -yG 3 2002 ii�s�iuEiori 14o• ��." 599 competition will be televised in the early morning hours here in Miami; and WHEREAS, Section 4-2 of the City of Miami Code provides that the City Commission may extend, by resolution, the hours of the sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption on licensed premises on special occasions; WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") views the upcoming 2002 FIFA World Cup as a special occasion and wishes to grant extended hours for the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages on the premises of establishments as set forth below during the final competition of the 2002 FIFA World Cup; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Pursuant to the below referenced sections of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended, during the 2002 FIFA World Cup final competition period from Thursday, May 30, 2002 through Sunday, June 30, 2002, an extension of hours Page 2 of 4 02- 599 of sale for establishments dispensing alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises (C.O.P.) only is granted as follows: (A) Section 4-2 (c) (3) : Mondays through Saturdays 3:00 A.M. to 7:00 A.M. Sundays 3:00 A.M. to 12 Noon a. Beer and wine bar, C.O.P. b. Liquor bar, C.O.P. C. Restaurant, liquor, beer and wine, C.O.P. d. Hotel, motel and apartments, C.O.P. with less than 100 guestrooms. e. Private clubs, liquor, C.O.P. f. Any of the establishments (above) in a retail or waterfront specialty center. (B) Section 4-2(c)(5) Mondays through Saturdays 5:00 A.M. to 7:00 A.M. Sundays 5:00 A.M. to 12 Noon a. Nightclubs, C.O.P. b. Supper clubs, C.O.P. C. Hotel, motel and apartments, C.O.P., with 100 or more guestrooms. d. Any of the establishments (above) in a retail or waterfront specialty center Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.'/ 1 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
