FOR REPRESENTATION OF POLICE OFFICER ALEJANDRO MACIAS IN THE CASE OF LYNN AND PERRY RUNNELS, AS PERSONAL REPRESENTATIVES OF JESSE STUART RUNNELS VS. CITY OF MIAMI, IN THE U.S. DISTRICT COURT FOR THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF FLORIDA, CASE NO. 00 -2930 -CIV -KING, IN THE AMOUNT OF $35,000 PLUS COSTS AS APPROVED BY THE CITY ATTORNEY; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM THE SELF-INSURANCE AND INSURANCE TRUST FUND, ACCOUNT CODE NO. 515001.624401.6.652, FOR SAID SERVICES. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The continued engagement of the law firm of Ronald J. Cohen, P.A. for representation of Police Officer Alejandro Macias in the case of Lynn and Perry Runnels, as personal representatives of the Estate of Jesse Stuart Runnels vs. City of Miami, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Case No. 00 -2930 -CIV -KING, in the amount of $35,000 plus costs as approved by the City Attorney, is authorized, with funds allocated from the Self -Insurance and C3Ty COMMISSION MEET IG APP 1 1 2002 pion 02- 367 Insurance Trust Fund, Account Code No. 515001.624401.6.652, for said services. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission. 02- 367 OF MIAMI CITY IT ORNEY S OFFIC CAm20 MORANDUM TO: Mayor and Men)Kers of �ie City Commission FROM: Alejandro City Attor DATE: March 2, 2 RE: Proposed Re ution for City Commission Meeting — April 11, 2002 Continued engagement of the law firm of Ron Cohen, P.A., for representation of Officer Alejandro Macias in the case of Runnels vs. City of Miami & Off Macias, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Case No. 00 -2930 -Civ -King (J-02-238) The attached proposed Resolution seeks authorization for the continued engagement of the law firm of Ron Cohen, P.A., for representation of Officer Alejandro Macias in the case of Runnels vs. City of Miami and Officer Alejandro Macias, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Case No. 00 -2930 -Civ -King, in the amount of $35,000 plus costs as approved by the City Attorney. After an initial appearance by the City Attorney's Office, a conflict of interest arose which precludes our representation of the parties in this case. Resolution No. 01-790, adopted July 26, 2001, approved the allocation of $50,000 plus costs. Approval of this Resolution will bring the total amount to $85,000, plus costs.
