HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-02-0353J-02-276 3/21/02 RESOLUTION NO. 02— 353 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ACCEPTING THE BID OF BIO -MEDICAL WASTE SERVICES, INC., THE SOLE RESPONSIVE AND RESPONSIBLE BIDDER PURSUANT TO INVITATION FOR BIDS NO. 01-02-068, DATED FEBRUARY 20, 2002, FOR THE ACQUISITION OF DISPOSAL SERVICES FOR BIO -HAZARDOUS WASTE FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF FIRE -RESCUE, TO BE USED BY VARIOUS CITY DEPARTMENTS, ON AN AS -NEEDED CONTRACT BASIS, FOR A PERIOD OF ONE YEAR, WITH THE OPTION TO RENEW FOR TWO ADDITIONAL ONE-YEAR PERIODS, IN AN ANNUAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $15,000; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM FIRE -RESCUE GENERAL OPERATING BUDGET, ACCOUNT CODE NO. 001000.280601.6.340, AND FROM EACH OF THE GENERAL OPERATING BUDGETS OF VARIOUS USER DEPARTMENTS, SUBJECT TO BUDGETARY APPROVAL. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The bid of Bio -Medical Waste Services, Inc., the sole responsive and responsible bidder pursuant to Invitation for Bids No. 01-02-068, dated February 20, 2002, for the acquisition of disposal services for bio -hazardous waste for the Department of Fire -Rescue, to be used by various city departments, on an as -needed contract basis, for a period of one CITY COMMISSION MEETING *OF APP 1 1 2602 Resolution No. 02- 353 year, with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods, in an annual amount not to exceed $15,000, is accepted, with funds allocated from Fire -Rescue General Operating Budget, Account Code No. 001000.280601.6.340, and from each of the General Operating Budgets of various user departments, subject to budgetary approval. Page 2 of 2 02— 353 CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission ,•:�lrf City Manager RECOMMENDATION CA -4 DATE: APR — 1 2002 FILE :FM-029.doc SUBJECT: Accept bid for Disposal Services For Bio -Hazardous Waste; City -Wide REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution accepting the bid of Bio -Medical Waste Services, Inc., located at 8285 N.W. 64 Street, Miami, Florida, 33166, a Dade/Hispanic vendor for the procurement of disposal services for bio -hazardous waste on a contract basis for one (1) year with the option -to -renew for two additional one-year periods, on an as needed basis, in an annual amount not to exceed $15,000, for the Department of Fire - Rescue and various City Departments. Funds for this purchase will be allocated from Account Number 001000.280601.6.340 ($10,000/Fire-Rescue) and ($5,000) from each of the General Operating Budgets of various user Departments, subject to budgetary approval. BACKGROUND Due to the nature of the City of Miami Fire -Rescue Department work, the need to dispose of medical waste is inevitable and necessary. It is critical that medical waste be disposed of properly and in accordance with the standards set forth by the National Fire Protection Association. This service will assure that medical waste is removed and disposed of properly for the Department of Fire -Rescue and various City Departments.
