BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: ,Section 1. The following individuals are hereby appointed as members of the Orange Bowl Advisory Board, each to serve a term expiring January 24, 2003, or until the Mayor or nominating Commissioner leaves office, whichever occurs first: APPOINTEES: Max Cruz Maritza Gutierrez Vanessa Acosta NOMINATED BY: Commissioner Tomas Regalado Commissioner Tomas Regalado Commissioner Angel Gonzdlez City Commission Meeting of March 14, 2002 Resolution Number 02-319 E Section 2. The requirement to be a qualified elector of the city contained in Section 53-1.23(a)(4) of the Code of the City of Miami, as amended, is hereby waived by a four-fifths affirmative vote of the City Commission, with regard to Maritza Gutierrez. THOMPSON CITY CLERK I Board appointments are administrative acts which do not require the Mayor's signature nor the City Attorney's review and approval. 02-319 25 CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA • I INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM REMED TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission FROM: Sy is Scheider Acting City Clerk DATE: February 21, 2002 FILE : SUBJECT: Orange Bowl Advisory Board REFERENCES: March 14, 2002 Agenda ENCLOSURES: Resolution, List of Members 1 The Orange Bowl Advisory Board was created to serve in an advisory capacity and make recommendations in writing to the City Commission as they relate to the Orange Bowl which shall include, but not be limited to: (1) Identification of essential capital improvements to modernize and restore the Orange Bowl as a first class facility; (2) Identification of funding sources to finance said capital improvements; (3) Identification of new and enthusiastic promotional strategies to market and attract diverse events to the Orange Bowl; (4) Recommendations for the solicitation of corporate sponsorship of the Orange Bowl facility and its components (skyboxes, etc.); and (5) Presentation of reports of the Board's findings, as directed by the City Commission. Members shall be qualified electors of the City of Miami. The Commission may, by a four- fifths vote, waive the requirement of a member being an elector, and/or the attendance requirement per the City Code. Eight appointments are needed at this time for members whose terms have expired: • Commissioner Teele has two nominations for seats currently held by: 1. Sam Bursyn (requires a waiver of the elector requirement) 2. Dr. Laurinus Pierre (requires a waiver of the elector requirement) • Commissioner Regalado has two nominations for seats currently held by: 1. Maritza Gutierrez (requires a waiver of the elector requirement) 2. Carlos Martell (exceeded the number of absences allowed per City Code) • Commissioner Gonz>ilez has one nomination for seat currently held by Adolfo Henriquez (requires a waiver of the elector requirement and exceeded the number of absences allowed per City Code). • Commissioner Winton has one nomination for seat currently held by Al Dotson, Jr. (requires a waiver of the elector requirement and exceeded the number of absences allowed per City Code). 02- 319 u • Mayor Diaz has one appointment for seats currently held by Douglas Greist, who is not a City elector and works for Miami -Dade County. Pursuant to -City Code Sec. 2-884(e), employees of Miami -Dade County or any municipality therein other than a City of Miami employees, shall not serve on or be appointed to any Board of the City of Miami, unless the City Commission waives this restriction by a four-fifths affirmative vote of its membership and the employee is a resident of the City of Miami. For your information, attached please find a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting that the Agenda Office place this issue on the March 14, 2002 Commission agenda.
