ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION
ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE FUND
ENTITLED "THE PARTNERSHIP STUDY FOR THE
PREVENTION OF VIOLENCE;" APPROPRIATING FUNDS
IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,450.55, CONSISTING OF A
DONATION FROM THE PARTNERSHIP STUDY FOR THE
PREVENTION OF VIOLENCE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF
MIAMI/JACKSON MEDICAL CENTER TO PROVIDE BASIC
SWIMMING SAFETY SKILLS TO INNER CITY
CHILDREN; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
ACCEPT THE DONATION AND TO EXECUTE THE
NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO
THE CITY ATTORNEY, FOR ACCEPTANCE OF SAID
GRANT, CONTAINING A REPEALER PROVISION, A
SEVERABILITY CLAUSE AND PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The following new Special Revenue Fund is
established and resources are appropriated as follows:
FUND TITLE: "The Partnership Study for the
Prevention of Violence"
RESOURCES: The Partnership Study for the
Prevention of Violence of the
University of Miami/Jackson
Medical Center
APPROPRIATIONS:
$1,450.55
$1,450.55

Section 2. The City Manager is authorized" to accept
the donation from The Partnership Study for the Prevention of
Violence of the University of Miami/Jackson Medical Center to
provide basic swimming safety skills to inner city children; and
to execute the necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the
City Attorney, for acceptance of said grant and providing for an
effective date.
Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances insofar
as they are inconsistent or in conflict with the provisions of
this Ordinance are repealed.
Section 4. If any section, part of section, paragraph,
clause, phrase or word of this Ordinance is declared invalid, the
remaining provisions of this Ordinance shall not be affected.
Section 5. This Ordinance shall become effective thirty
days after final reading and adoption thereof."
1� The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with
all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney,
including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City
Charter and Code provisions.

ENCLOSURES:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Ordinance
establishing a Special Revenue Fund Entitled: "The Partnership Study for the Prevention
of Violence" and appropriating funds in the amount of $1,450.55 consisting of a grant
from the Partnership for the Study and Prevention of Violence of the University of
Miami/Jackson Medical Center. The Ordinance also authorizes the City Manager to
accept said grant award and to execute the necessary documents, in a form acceptable to
the City Attorney.
BACKGROUND:
The Department of Parks and Recreation submitted a grant request to the partnership for
the study and prevention of violence for the purpose of helping to fund a basic swimming
safety skills program for inner city children.
The City was awarded a grant in the amount of $1,450.55 for the swimming skills
Program. This Ordinance accepts said grant and creates a Special Revenue Fund at the
same time. Approval of the attached Ordinance is recommended.
