(First Reading -May 9, _002 City Commission Meeting)
At the May 9, 2002,02 Commission Meeting, the City Commission was presented with
a first reading ordinance proposing to change the membership composition of the Miami Sports
and Exhibition Authority ("MSEA') from eleven to six members, change the number of years
permitted for consecutive service on MSEA, and to further designate the Executive Director of
MSEA as the City's representative to the Greater Miami Convention Bureau.
After discussion, the City Commission passed the Ordinance approving the changes
related to the number of years permitted for service on MSEA and requiring the Executive
Director attend meetings of the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors' Bureau. However, the
City Commission modified the Ordinance to change the membership from eleven to eight
members and required members to be appointed as set forth in Section 2-1013(a)(1-5) (see
Pages 2 and 3 of Ordinance). The City Commission further designated the City Manager, or a
designated Assistant City Manager, to -Te a non-voting ex officio member and serve as MSEA's
managing director.
The attached ordinance has been submitted for placement on the July 25, 2002 Agenda
incorporating the City Commission's modifications.
