Diaz ENCLOSURES Mayor I would respectfully request that the following item be placed on the agenda of the City of Miami Commission for consideration at is next hearing scheduled for October 10, 2002: ■ Resolution of the City of Miami Conunission appointing Mayor Manuel A. Diaz as the elected official representing the City of Miami on the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Governing Board, The Metropolitan Planning Organization "0) is charged with the responsibility of planning a transportation system for Miami Dade County. The Governing Board serves as the policy-making body of the MPO determining which transportation projects are to be funded with the limited local, state, and federal dollars available. It is also vested with exercising the powers of the MPO, including the final decision on all policy matters, adoption or endorsement of all transportation plans and programs, adoption of budgets, approval of agremnents or contracts, adaption of the rales, and establishing or ehanjring its internal operating structure. The MPO Governing Board is comprised of the Miami -Dade Board of County Commissioners; a representative of the Dade League of Cities; a representative from the Miami - Dade Expressway ,A.ulhority (MDX); a representative of the Miami Dade School Board; elected officials representing municipalities with, a population over 54,004; and one at -large member. MTO bylaws require that the legislative body of a municipality with a population over 50,040 designate the elected official that will represent their city on the Governing Board. The Honorable Arthur Teele, Jr., City Commissioner far District 5, has ably served as the city's representative on the Governing Board. Recently, Commissioner Teele announced lois intention to resign from the MPO Governing Board. Shortly, thereafter, C ommissioner T Bele aslxd that I consider service on the Board in his stead I accepted his offer and would ask that the Commission support the passage of the above listed resolution.
