HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC 2002-10-07 City Clerk's ReportCITY OF MIAMI CITY CLERK'S REPORT MEETING DATE: October 7, 2002 Page No. 1 Direction to the City Manager and City Attorney: by Commissioner Teele to draft a complete position working paper on the legislative process to be presented to the Mayor and Commission; further stating that there needs to be a working agreement, in the form of a memorandum of understanding, between the Mayor, Commissioner Sanchez (as legislative liaison), the City Manager and the City Attorney; further requesting the City Attorney to designate an Assistant City Attorney as the legislative liaison from the Law Department. Direction to the City Manager and City Attorney: by Commissioner Teele to ask the Florida Legislature for a range of activities to provide relief to the City of Miami as it relates to it being the poorest city in the nation, pursuing an omnibus legislation for relief to the ten poorest cities in the State. Note for the Record: Commissioner Sanchez stated that he would prepare a memorandum to the members of the City Commission, including the City Manager, requesting each to prioritize the top ten legislative issues. Commissioner Sanchez further stated that he would prepare a legislative package to come back to the City Commission for its consideration and approval at its first meeting in November 2002. A MOTION STIPULATING THAT THE STATE OF FLORIDA MOTION 02-1099 LEGISLATIVE LOBBYING TEAM SHALL INCLUDE IN ITS LIST MOVED: TEELE OF PRIORITIES: (1) GRANTING THE POWER TO SECONDED: SANCHEZ MUNICIPALITIES TO REGULATE THE NUMBER OF ADULT ABSENT: WINTON, LIVING FACILITIES LOCATED WITHIN SAID GONZALEZ MUNICIPALITIES; AND (2) ABOLISHMENT OF THE THREE PERSON ARBITRATION BOARD REGULATING THE RATES FOR HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE. CITY OF MIAMI CITY CLERK'S REPORT MEETING DATE: October 7, 2002 Page No. 2 A MOTION STIPULATING THAT THE STATE OF FLORIDA MOTION 02-1100 LEGISLATIVE LOBBYING TEAM SHALL INCLUDE IN ITS LIST MOVED: SANCHEZ OF PRIORITIES HAVING THE CITY OF MIAMI GRANTED SECONDED: TEELE ACCESS TO THE SPORTS DEVELOPMENT TAX. ABSENT: WINTON, GONZALEZ Direction to the City Manager: by Commissioner Teele to include technology initiatives through the Parks Department and/or the public library system, as a way of packaging relief to the poorest city in the nation to be requested from the State and federal governments; further directing to include that the fees currently charged by Miami -Dade County for applications before the Unsafe Structure Board be included in relief package sought by the City of Miami. NEGATIVE VOTES, PHYSICAL ABSENCE OF A COMMISSIONER OR ABSTENTION FROM VOTING BY A COMMISSIONER, IF ANY, IS ALSO DULY REFLECTED IN SAID VOTE.
